'Although I feel my playing improved over the time that I worked with CultureMix, I also received a whole range of invaluable skills; I gained experience of administrative skills, teaching and general business management. I also made some really good friends.' Ailsa - Founder member 1997. Captain and administrator 2006-2008

About internships and work experience at CultureMix
Through the two annual internship players attending college learn the basics of running a business gaining an insight into the machinations of a small arts company. They receive training in project and event management and hands on experience attending meetings, handling bookings and dealing with partners and clients.

Intern training is for up to three months. The interns induction involves learning about the structure of the company, health and safety, child protection, office management and arts project management. Interns are given hands on tasks to understand the company's products and services and how to deal with clients, customers, partners and stakeholders.

Interns go through a process of work experience which gives them the skills required to enter the world of work, including how to manage phone calls and enquiries, producing letters and well written emails, dealing with the local authority, schools and most importantly people.

All interns are taught to play steel pan music, learning about the history and origins and how to help other learners.

CultureMix also offers work experience to Year 10's seeking career opportunities in the creative industry. In a three year period twenty-three young people attended a two-week long work experience training with CultureMix, a testament to the success of this programme.

'I have learnt how to manage band enquiries and I have improved my playing on the drums besides playing bass and the other instruments. Playing pan has influenced me to become a better musician all round.'
Zash - orchestra vice captain 2006-2008. Captain 2008-2010.
