About Iman Pascall

Born in Brooklyn, New York of Trinidadian heritage Iman Pascall is a young, talented musician, composer and arranger specialising in steel pan music.

Iman started playing pan at four years old and has played in thirteen Panorama Championships in the UK, Antigua, New York and with Phase II, Desperadoes and Starlift in Trinidad.

In an exclusive interview with When Steel Talks (WST) performing artist and student Iman Pascall shares her experiences of her first time as a UK Panorama arranger for Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra.

Her inspiration comes from playing with pan royalty like steel pan virtuosos Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe and Andy Narell. Following her time as a student of Florida Memorial University's director Dr Dawn Batson Iman won a scolarship and is now at Berklee College of Music majoring in steel pan and studying the music business.

Iman (24) is in the UK working with CultureMix Arts to arrange Destra's 'Calling Meh' for Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra (RASPO) who will compete in the UK Panorama Steelband Championship for the second time. Sixteen pannists from Aberdeen's Bucksburn Academy will also join RASPO for the event.

This is Iman's first outing as a Panorama arranger and only her third time in the UK where she is already turning heads with her pan virtuosity when she performed an impromptu set at the Women of Steel event on 22 July 2011 at Dalston's Visions Video Bar.

At just 24 years old Iman Pascall premiered her arrangement of Calling Meh at the 2011 UK Panorama with RASPO.

Women of Steel Visions Bar Dalston 22 July 2011

The UK Women of Steel is a collective of the foremost female performers in British steel pan music.

The Club Skaville event took place at Visions Video Bar in Dalston on 22 July 2011 and featured the UK's top female pan soloists.

Delphina 'Paness' James, Vanya 'Pan Lady' Reid, Debra 'Pan Diva' Romaine and Carleen 'Sweet Wrists' Etienne were joined by special guest soloist Iman Pascall who is in the UK from Brooklyn New York to arrange a Panorama tune for Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra.
