RASPO at Notting Hill Carnival 2011 - UK Steelband Championship Review

The National Steelband Championship known as Panorama took place on Saturday 27 August 2011 at Horniman's Pleasance Park in West London's Notting Hill. For RASPO's second appearance at Panorama players from Aberdeen's Pandemic Steel Band joined in to create a forty-seven piece orchestra.

Iman Pascall, from Berklee College of Music in Brooklyn New York, made her first appearance as a UK arranger creating a version of Destra's 'Calling Meh' for her Panorama debut.

Iman worked with RASPO in Reading and visited Pandemic in Aberdeen before the two groups joined forces in Reading for the final week of rehearsals. Drill director Khuent Rose and drummer KJ Marcelle also arrived in the final week to hone the orchestra for the championship.

The RASPO float entertains the Notting Hill Carnival revellers.

The successful collaboration between Reading, Aberdeen and New York showed in the achievement of the players to gain entry into the National Championship and the enthusiasm of the united group at the Notting Hill Carnival procession on both Sunday and Monday.
