BAS Awards 2011

A RASPO delegation attended the glittering British Association of Steelbands (BAS) annual awards and dinner dance to cheer on their supporting band Mangrove who received an award for their breakthrough win at the Panorama Steelband Competition becoming the new Champions of Steel for 2011.

Awards went to deserving steel pan music advocates and pioneers with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award presented to newest member of the Association's Hall of Fame Alfred 'Freddy' Totesaut.

Other recipients of Achievement Awards were Sonny Blacks who received the Randolph Baptiste Award and Aubrey Bryan who accepted the Ezekiel 'Biggs' Yearwood Award.

The event kicked off with a delicious three course Caribbean style dinner followed by speeches and the award ceremony. After dinner entertainment came courtesy of Owen Reid's comedy puppet show Afro Dizzy Act sponsored by Dudley Dickson. The evening finished of with a dj and dancing.

All in all a pleasant evening with family, friends and pan lovers. Congratulations go to Mangrove, our favourite steel band champions.
