RASPO at Notting Hill Carnival 2013

RASPO took Reading to Notting Hill Carnival for a day of music and dancing in the procession of carnival floats that wound their way through the streets of West London.

The South Street Arts Centre based orchestra took four dancers and special guests to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Europe's largest two day street party from the floating stage.

The thirty strong group arrived early to set up the instruments and decorate the float joining the eight hour long procession. With non stop music and dancing the orchestra entertained the massive crowds keen to see the costume masqueraders, try out Caribbean food and see live steel bands like RASPO.

With new t-shirts especially designed for the event through a collaboration project with Reading Museum, the steel band showcased their new repertoire previewed in Reading on Friday. More...

Float decor

RASPO Steel Band decorate the float for London Notting Hill Carnival

The RASPO float is decorated with balloons and tinsel fringing. The most important installation is the steel pan instruments, and the drums and percussion - the engine room of the steel band.

The large trailer creates a moving floating stage for RASPO Steel Orchestra to perform for the enormous crowds at Notting Hill Carnival.
