Mary meets The Mighty Sparrow

Calypso King of the World the Mighty Sparrow performed a well received set at The Tabernacle in West London, helping to kick of the Carnival season.

Slinger Francisco ORTT CMT, better known as Mighty Sparrow, is a calypso singer, songwriter, guitarist and Trinidad resident. Known as the 'Calypso King of the World', he is one of the best-known and most successful calypsonians.

He has won Trinidad's Carnival Road March competition eight times, Calypso King / Monarch eight times, and has twice won the Calypso King of Kings title.

Tickets for his Tabernacle performance sold out within days of going on sale. His rendition of calypso favourites including Obeah Wedding, Drunk and Disorderly, Sixty Million Frenchmen, Saltfish, and Jean and Dinah established his position as the elder statesman of innuendo.

His performance captivated the appreciative audience who sung along to the risque lyrics and were brought to their feet for a rousing standing ovation.

He was presented with a bouquet on behalf of Carnival Village by CultureMix Arts director Mary Genis who is a board member for the Trust.
