RASPO-rama Summer Steel Band 2015

In July 2015 Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra (RASPO) launched RASPO-rama - a summer project of Free Carnival Music Workshops to recruit new players for the steel band and prepare for a busking tour of Thames Valley towns and cities.

The RASPO-rama Carnival Music Workshops launched at South Street Arts Centre on Tuesday 28 July at 6pm to a full house with many new faces willing to try their hand at playing the steel pan instrument.
The FREE workshops took place at South Street Arts Centre during August for anyone brave enough to pick up the pan sticks.

All ages over fourteen were made welcome with no experience necessary, just enthusiasm and commitment to the twice-weekly workshops.

A new repertoire was specially created to suit the range of abilities in attendance. The arrangements stretched the more advanced players but gave opportunities for the newcomers to learn complementary parts that contributed to the orchestra music.

With Instruments provided the sessions were led by the friendly tutor team of professional musicians who support RASPO's live performances.

The project culminated in live outdoor busking concerts in Reading and Oxford.
