CultureMix at the Royal Albert Hall

A Celebration of Music, Berkshire Music Hub's special gala concert featured children of all ages and abilities working together to deliver stunning performances to an audience of over four thousand.

CultureMix tutors Mary Genis, Paul Jr Watson and Dani Richardson worked with 150 children from eight Berkshire primary school steel bands to learn Edvard Grieg's 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' and 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson.

Forty-four children were selected to do the Royal Albert Hall performance representing Theale, Lambourn, and Welford & Wickham Primary Schools; Geoffrey Field, and Calcot Junior Schools, Birch Copse Primary and Oxford Road Community School from Reading, and Holy Trinity Primary School from Cookham.

The event also featured the Berkshire Youth Guitar Orchestra; a thousand strong choir of Berkshire school students alongside the Berkshire County Youth Choirs, and the Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra with guests from the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The concert was an absolute triumph for CultureMix and the Berkshire Music Hub providing a memorable experience for the children:

Just a short note to say thankyou so much for coming to play at RAH yesterday with your talented team. I always love hearing the pans and the amazing skill and confidence that your children play with is a delight.

I just wanted to drop you an email to thank you all so much for making it possible for our children to perform at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday.
It was an absolutely terrific event and certainly forms one of the highlights of our year. I know it will be an occasion that we will remember for many years to come. Thank you to the entire team for looking after us so well during the day.

A truly wonderful event for our children. Our sincere thanks to you all for your time, commitment and hard work in giving them an incredible experience and memories to last a lifetime. Our children came to school today and they were so so, so proud of themselves. They were definitely walking taller - you and your team made that happen.
It was a privilege to be part of that evening and we cannot thank you enough.
