Carnival of the World - London - Notting Hill Carnival

Carnival of the World took Reading to London's famous Notting Hill Carnival (LNHC) with a RASPO Steel Orchestra float and costumes as part of the procession.

With a 20 piece orchestra and costumed masqueraders CultureMix showcased Carnival of the World at Europe's largest two-day street event joining 70 floats for the marathon performance.

Carnival of the World's appearance at Notting Hill Carnival is part of a tour to showcase and celebrate diversity through the arts.

Carnival of the World masqueraders wore costumes specially created by carnival couture designer Melissa Simon-Hartman. Make up by The Glitterbox.

Preparation

RASPO Steel Orchestra's float at London's Notting Hill Carnival on August Bank Holiday Monday 2016

The RASPO float is decorated with balloons, banners, flags and tinsel fringing. All the steel pan stands are firmly and safely secured to the installed scaffolding before embarking on the marathon performance.

Everything the 30 strong group needs for the next 8 hours is in the support vehicle. The mini bus follows the float during the procession with freshly cooked food for the day, drinks, and a place to rest or change.

RASPO Steel Orchestra entertained thousands of revellers at Notting Hill Carnival 2016 on August Bank Holiday Monday's finale procession.

RASPO is one of 10 steel band to join the 70 floats, 40 static sound systems, 15,000 costumes and 300 food stalls that line the 3.5-mile route.

More than two million people descend on the West London event for a weekend that celebrates Caribbean culture, music, food and drink bringing in 93 million to London's economy.
