Our Summer Carnival Programme offers an abundance of exciting activities for 2018.

The CultureMix Steel Band Festival at The Hexagon features a 100 piece steel percussion orchestra concert of school children at the Hexagon. Tickets are just £5. Book Steel Band Festival tickets.

Yle De Egba street performance Pernambuco NE Brazil

In 2006 CultureMix director Mary Genis visited Brazil to explore carnival music. Armed with a steel pan she worked with Brazilian group Yle De Egba to learn afoxe rhythms in exchange for steel pan workshops. The collaboration culminated in performances at events in the hillside community of Jose do Pinho and at Olinda Carnival. More...

For 2018 master percussionist Dito D'Oxossi and his group Yle De Egba will come to the UK to join Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra for workshops and performances in Reading and at London Notting Hill Carnival.

IYA Rebels album launch

Peace and Love Concert featuring roots reggae band IYA Rebels launching new album 'Nadah' at the Purple Turtle Bar Reading 7 April 2018

Roots reggae band IYA Rebels will launch their new album 'Nadah' at the Peace and Love Concert in Reading's Purple Turtle Bar.

Supported by Afro Wave artist Jamah 'Childish' Lynam with music by Lou Mulato the evening will be a feast for live music fans.

Carnival of the World welcomes Yle De Egba from NE Brazil to join RASPO for the UK National Steelband Championship and Notting Hill Carnival

For 2018 CultureMix joins Arts Council England's National Portfolio. The organisation will celebrate with a series of Brazilian themed workshops and events for Carnival of the World.

Afoxe percussionists Yle De Egba will come from NE Brazil to Reading to join RASPO for the Carnival of the World event in Reading, the UK National Steelband Championship and Notting Hill Carnival in London.
