Reggae Fridays - Open Mic Night

Welcome to Reggae Fridays Open Mic celebrating established reggae artists and encouraging upcoming talent.

Since May 2022 Reggae Fridays open mic event takes place on the first Friday of the month at the CultureMix Arts and Music Centre. Our next events are on Friday 7 April and 5 May.

The events host a range of reggae royalty including British lovers rock artist Peter Hunnigale, the front man of Musical Youth fame Dennis Seaton, Empress of Roots Soul Teshay Makeda, roots reggae singer Prince Malachi, singer songwriter Jnr Watson, Reggae’s Got Talent winner Rafeelya, and a surprise visit from Bob Marley’s guitarist Junior Marvin.

With reggae royalty gracing the stage the popular nights are well attended with artists backed by the best British reggae musicians; drummer Carl ‘Carlalou’ Benjamin (The Wailers, Julian Marley, Lee Perry, Dawn Penn); keyboard player Cyrus ‘Monkites’ Richard (Black Uhuru, Mighty Diamonds, Abyssinians); Reggae Collective stalwart guitarist Derick Andrews (Boney M, Aqua Livi); all led by Grammy award winning producer, bass guitar supremo and musical director Don Chandler.

We welcome musicians, singers, rappers and spoken word artists to sign up and take part in the Open Mic from 9pm to 10pm. Booking in advance is recommended. 

Don’t miss out – get yourself a £5 ticket, come with your family and friends and enjoy an up close and personal reggae music celebration with performances from international and local talent, DJ Lou Mulato spinning tunes in between acts, a pop up bar open from 7pm, and an evening of sweet reggae music with a live band.
