Carnival of the World returns to Broad Street Reading with the arrival of the 4 metre high Sea Giant Puppet, a live music stage and The Broad Street Parade.
The free High Street event will see the Sea Giant Puppet promenade along Broad Street in the town centre on Saturday 13 August as part of Out of the Deep Blue – an outdoor physical theatre performance inspired by the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.
Designed specifically for family and festival audiences the show tells the magical story of EKO the sea giant who rises from the deep ocean and encounters, on the shore, a little girl called ᐯIOᒪET. Their larger-than-life ‘pas de deux’ uses dance theatre and movement as storytelling tools set to a mesmerising musical soundscape.
Carnival of the World is brought to Reading by locally based CultureMix Arts, Autin Dance, Reading Central Business Improvement District (BID), and Reading’s Economy & Destination Agency (REDA). The live stage launches at 12pm with award winning steel band Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra (RASPO) followed by a host of guest artists.
The Broad Street Parade at 2pm features carnival costumes, dancers, percussionists and special guest EKO to delight and surprise Reading shoppers and audiences. After more Live Stage performances the event closes at 6pm.
An unmissable spectacular free family event with RASPO Steel Band, colourful costumes, live performances, and very special surprise guests.
