
April’s Reggae Friday brought together the finest talents of British reggae, uniting the Reading Reggae Collective with a stellar lineup of musicians and Open Mic singers, all expertly hosted by Jnr Watson.
The Reggae Collective serves as a vibrant platform for emerging musicians and vocalists to learn from the UK’s reggae elite, creating an enriching environment for collaboration and live performances that elevate the musical experience.
At the heart of the Collective is charismatic host, reggae singer and songwriter Jnr Watson leading the house band alongside guitarist Derick Andrews, known for his work with Boney M and Aqua Livi. Also featured is versatile guitarist Levi, along with Colin Bibby and Greg Titchmarsh on drums and talented hornsman Dhuryahdas on saxophone.



April’s event was graced by the presence of drum royalty Carl Benjamin, who tours with The Wailers and has shared the stage with reggae legends such as Uroy, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Big Youth, Johnny Clark, Dawn Penn, and Mutabaruka.
He was joined by the talented bass player and singer Barry Dread, who has collaborated with icons including John Holt, Leroy Smart, Pat Kelly, Super Cat, and Alton Ellis.
The evening also featured keyboard maestro Calvin Bennion of Third Eye Productions who has played with legends such as Cat Stevens, Billy Ocean, Gabrielle, and Aswad.
Joined by classically trained guitarist Micheal Fletcher, affectionately known as ‘Megahbass’, who is currently the MD and bass player for Italian Reggae Ambassador Albarosie.
Previously the MD for Shaggy, Michael has played alongside reggae greats like Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Freddie McGregor, and Buju Banton.
Also present was the immensely talented guitarist Ciyo Brown who has graced stages with a host of internationally acclaimed artists including Sly and Robbie, Freddie McGregor, Little Roy, Horace Andy, Steel Pulse, and Carleen Anderson, highlighting the incredible talent flowing through this vibrant reggae gathering.
Reggae Collective singers Dionne, Yvonne, Pam and Sista Thelma wowed the appreciative crowd with their heartfelt renditions alongside Jah Herbert and Ruel Richardson who both also play guitar and offered excellent performances with reggaefication by the superb live band
