This month we celebrate Diago Guisbert Monfort (15) who joined steel band beginners in 2025 and has made amazing progress with RASPO Steel Orchestra.
Diago excelled at playing steel pan with his natural musicality and existing musical experience and knowledge. Within a few months of joining beginner workshops he was invited to attend RASPO Bootcamp to learn the more complex repertoire arrangements before joining the orchestra.
“Being part of RASPO, I play steel pans, help with beginner sessions, and have started arranging music, which has helped me grow as a musician since I joined a year ago. It’s a supportive and inspiring group, and I’ve really enjoyed turning my ideas into something the band can play together.”

Diago is now an established member of RASPO performing at Carnival of the World and Calypso & Carols in 2025. He is an amazing addition helping beginners learn at steel band workshops whilst making new attendees feel welcome.
As an ideal role model Diago’s enthusiasm and energy inspires the younger players. He is proficient on tenor pan and learns to play all the steel pan instruments including six bass, double guitars, cellos, tenor bass and double seconds.
His most recent achievement is his original composition written especially for RASPO. A well considered arrangement the orchestra is looking forward to learning at the end of the season in the Autumn.
